We are celebrating 50 Years of the Burlington Choral Society (BCS)!
We are thrilled to share the news of our fall concert! "Voices of Change: Songs that Shaped History" will take place on Saturday, November 21st at the Elley-Long Music Center at 7:30 PM.
Our new Artistic Director, James Stewart describes this concert as "Some songs entertain us. Others change us. Voices of Change traces the remarkable journey of choral music that has given voice to hope, resistance, faith, and freedom across generations. Through unforgettable works and the stories behind them, this concert celebrates the moments when ordinary people sang together and, in doing so, helped change history."
We will be singing songs from all over the world from the Medieval, Renaissance, Reformation periods and beyond. We will start with the Ukrainian National Anthem; continue with Hildegard Von Bingen’s Spiritus Sanctus, putting the power of choral singing into women's voices, and include Josquin des Prez’s version of Ave Maria virgo serena, revolutionizing harmony in choral singing.
We then will sing Bach's arrangement of a popular chorale first written by Martin Luther, Ach Gott, von Himmel sieh darien; Palestrina’s Kyrie from Missa Pape Marcelli Counter-Reformation, and Randall Thompson’s Alleluia, written before the U.S. joined WWII as both a prayer for peace and a protest. We will also be singing key songs from the Abolitionist movement, the Suffragist movement, the Civil Rights movement and other crucial songs of unity from the recent century.
Join us in song on Saturday, November 21st at 7:30 pm at the Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael’s College.
Tickets are available at http://www.sevendaystickets.com. General admission tickets for $30 are available online and at the door. Students 18 and under are free.
